Greenyard Fresh France is a leader in importing lychees from Madagascar to France and Europe. The Red Island is itself the largest producer in the southern hemisphere and 80% of lychees sold in the European Union originate from there.
According to the International Labour Organisation, some 45,000 men and women work on the lychee harvest for export, another 4,000 on their transportation between the estates and the town, and there are approximately 25,000 workers in the processing and transformation plants during the lychee season.
Still according to the ILO, “importers play an extensive role in structuring the network and they are the main players on whom funding, logistics and efforts to professionalize the network depend (harvest monitoring service, laboratory, logistics, certification)”.
In all its undertakings, Greenyard Fresh France gives priority to food safety by compliance with strict procedures and controls in accordance with European standards. The company invests in mutually profitable relations with its suppliers and producers while seeking sustainable supply methods.
